Naturopath Perth: Homeopathy and Naturopathic Treatment of Children

 The treatment of children is a special interest of ours. Because of its effectiveness and its holistic approach, homeopathy is especially appropriate for children. It is also tasteless and low dose and parents have virtually no trouble getting them to take the medicine. This cannot be said for herbs and vitamins; but we rarely prescribe these things for patients of any age.

We prefer people to get their nutrition in a natural balance from foods, and while it is often difficult to get children to eat well, we find that constitutional homeopathic treatment often restores or encourages a healthy appetite. Of course, much of what we say here applies to adults as well. But it is useful in this discussion to make a distinction between treatment of acute and chronic diseases. Children tend to get more acute illnesses than adults. These are mostly the result of infections, and the body recovers in a few days, or a few weeks at most.

This is a necessary and normal process, as their immune systems need to learn, and in this way prepare for more serious challenges. The problem is that drugs such as antibiotics impede this education. Homeopathy on the other hand assists the process, and the body is in a better situation to face the next challenge with a similar infection.

We need to stress this, as many people assume that we can deal only with chronic problems, and when an infection occurs they need to visit a doctor with their child. While we recognise the need for drugs in serious cases and as a last resort (and will refer on ourselves), in the vast majority of cases we can deal with coughs, colds, influenza, bronchitis, croup, conjunctivitis, ear infections, tonsillitis, staphylococcal infections, impetigo, boils and other acute problems.

Equally, we can treat chronic cases. Chronic conditions are those where the body is unable to restore health and the problem continues. In fact parents mostly bring their children to see us at this point, as it is obvious that continuous rounds of antibiotics or steroids are not the answer.

When these infections continually recur the situation has become chronic. In these cases we prescribe a constitutional homeopathic medicine that begins the process of healing the immune system and the whole person. There are also specific remedies that can undo the negative effects of antibiotics and other medicines. We will also provide treatment for the parent to have on hand to for the next episode of coughs, colds, flu, ear infections, tonsillitis and so on. All these medicines are individually prescribed after an extensive case history, and backup phone support is available at all times.

Other chronic cases in children that are not necessarily the result of infections include allergies, food intolerances, hay fever, acne, enlarged tonsils and adenoids, asthma, eczema and dermatitis, headaches and migraines, unexplained stomach and abdominal pains and chronic and recurring menstrual problems in adolescent girls.  All of these may be treated and resolved with homeopathy at this Perth clinic.
